0621 GMT  August 6,  (CNN) Fully vaccinated people who get a Covid-19 breakthrough infection can transmit the virus, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Thursday.    "Our vaccines are working exceptionally well," Walensky told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "They continue to work well for Delta, with regard to severe illness and death -- they prevent it. But what they can't do anymore is prevent transmission." That's why the CDC changed its guidance last week and is now recommending even vaccinated people wear masks indoors again, Walensky said. Last week, the agency released a study that showed the Delta variant produced similar amounts of virus in vaccinated and unvaccinated people if they got infected -- data that suggests vaccinated people who get a breakthrough infection could have a similar tendency to spread the virus as the unvaccinated ," Walensky said.    For Immediate Release: Friday, July 30, 2021   ...
Statement from CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH on Today’s MMWR Media Statement For Immediate Release: Friday, July 30, 2021 Contact:   Media Relations (404) 639-3286 On July 27th, CDC updated its  guidance for fully vaccinated people , recommending that everyone wear a mask in indoor public settings in  areas of substantial and high transmission , regardless of vaccination status. This decision was made with the data and science available to CDC at the time, including a valuable public health partnership resulting in rapid receipt and review of unpublished data. Today, some of those  data were published in CDC’s  Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) , demonstrating that Delta infection resulted in similarly high SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in vaccinated and unvaccinated people. High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with Delta can transmit the...
CDC study shows three-fourths of people infected in Massachusetts coronavirus outbreak were vaccinated but few required hospitalization By  Carolyn Y. Walker/Boston Globe/Getty Images) A sobering  scientific analysis  published Friday found that three-quarters of the people infected during an explosive  coronavirus  outbreak fueled by the delta variant were fully vaccinated. The report on the Massachusetts cases, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, offers key evidence bolstering the hypothesis that vaccinated people can spread the more transmissible variant and may be a factor in the summer surge of infections. The data, detailed in the CDC’s  Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report , helped persuade agency scientists to reverse recommendations on mask-wearing and advise t...

CDC says fully vaccinated people spread the Delta variant and should wear masks: 'This new science is worrisome' Aria Bendix July 27, 2021 · 4 min read In this article: Rochelle Walensky American medical scientist CDC director Rochelle Walensky in Wilmington, Delaware on December 8, 2020.  Kevin Lamarque/Reuters The CDC  updated its guidelines  on Tuesday to recommend masks indoors, even for vaccinated people. The Delta variant makes it easier for vaccinated people to transmit the virus, the CDC said. But vaccines remain highly effective at preventing severe disease, no matter the variant. See more stories on Insider's business page . New science has again prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to update its mask guidelines. The CDC  recommended on Tuesday  that fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings "in areas with substantial and high transmission." That includes  a large swath of the US right now , including t...

ATLANTA (KMOX) --   CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that Covid-19 vaccines are no longer effective at preventing transmission of the virus. © Provided by KMOX News Radio St. Louis CDC Director: Covid vaccines can't prevent transmission anymore The director for the CDC publicly acknowledged in a CNN interview that the COVID-19 vaccine is not effective at preventing transmission of the virus. In a segment on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, Walensky said that while the vaccines are doing very well to protect against serious illness and death, what they cannot do anymore is stop transmission. “Our vaccines are working exceptionally well. They continue to work well for Delta with regard to sever illness and death. They prevent it," Walensky said. The following statement is more notable, however, as it is one of the only times the CDC has acknowledged that the vaccines are not capable of stopping the spread of the virus. " ...what they can’t do anymore is prevent transmission. ...
